Nobunaga the Fool is the kind of mecha anime that dares you to laugh at the premise first and then surprises you with how hard it swings emotionally. Two worlds split into the Eastern Star and Western…
Now, if it's not obvious already, I think it's kind of crazy how, like, well, it's not that crazy, but it's one of those anime where The characters are based on famous figures from all over history.
Kind of like Petals of Reincarnation, but not the same premise, but I'm just saying, like, it has that similar thing to where the characters are named after certain political, historical figures.
and to an extent yeah their personalities are like a page from that person but let's go ahead and talk about the characters themselves first of all let's go ahead and talk about nobunaga oda the main character and the member of the oda clan in the eastern star Usually taken as a fool for his brash and impulsive behavior, thus both his father and the court claim that his brother Nagakatsu will be a better successor to his father.
the savior king that will unite both the western and eastern stars he chose excuse me damn he chooses to become the destroyer king and faces and is killed by his retainer misuhide which we're going to talk about in just a moment However, against all prognostics, uh, what he destroys is not the creation itself, but the power of destruction instead, and becomes the avatar of chaos.
Before dying, he declares his love for Joan, and, or John, Joan, like, they, they spell it differently sometimes.
Uh, but I, I distinctly remember they pronounce it, uh, Joan the art, yeah, it's supposed to be Joan, yeah.
So before dying, he declares his love for Joan and vowed to encounter each other in their next lives.
Now, Joan of Arc, because you remember, like, based on the actual person, Joan of Arc, is introduced as a woman ostracized by her village, who is guided by divine revelations of an ominous future for the Western Star.
She meets Da Vinci, joins him on his journey to the Eastern Star, where she meets Nobunaga, disguises herself as a male retainer named Ranmaru Mori to fight by his side because they, Eastern Star, like the Oda clan, they don't like the idea of a woman being a retainer or a fighter, you know, like kind of traditional in that aspect.
She possessed the sacred treasure of absolute purity, one of the five powerful amulets that can empower a giant battle armor.
She frequently has doubts as to Nogunaga being the Savior King, claiming that she will never understand him, but eventually she receives her own giant battle armor from Da Vinci, naming it Orleans? Orleans? Orleans? Orleans? Orleans? Because you know, It's still kind of like New Orleans, but it has a little tilde on the E.
So I'm thinking, am I supposed to pronounce it a little differently like Orleans? Is that right? She appears to be developing slight feelings for Nobunaga.
I mean, not to be too, not to assume too much, but, you know, like a lot of shows and whatnot It just feels weird when there's not at least one romantic couple or some sort of relationship going on.
She is fatally injured during the final fight and remains with Nogunaga even after he becomes a team of destruction until both of them die while declaring their love for each other and vowing to meet each other in the next lives.
They like kind of make that a little obvious how like, oh, you know, that sort of thing.
