The Yarniacs Episode 379: Knitting in community

What have you been stocking?

Well, I, first thing I am stocking is a shawl.

It is called the Cygnus Shawl, and it is designed by Amy Christophers, who is the designer of the Pressed Flowers series of eight patterns.

I went and counted them.

They're-

Oh, there are eight of them now?

... eight Pressed Flowers patterns.

Wow.

Yes.

And Gail has made one of them.

Yep, the shawl.

You made the shawl.

Mm-hmm.

And I have stocked one.

I think the one that I stocked was the Kerchief.

Yep, I remember that.

And when I was at a knit group last week, we were talking about two color shawls, and someone brought up on their phone the pattern pages for the Cygnus Shawl, and we all realized that, oh, it was designed by the same woman as the Pressed Flower Shawl.

And we had a whole discussion about this shawl design, and we believe it was inspired by the traditional pinwheel quilt design because it has that little pinwheel pattern that goes kind of, it looks like it's, it's spinning around.

It's not really spinning around.

[laughs]

But it looks like it's spinning around, and you see that pattern on traditional quilts.

And I do think this designer takes a lot of inspiration from quilts.

So the Cygnus is done in a mosaic stitch motif, one color per row, which is my kind of colorwork.

Mm-hmm.

Projects show some beautiful versions in multicolored yarn.
