Chapter One: The Actor's Story, Being the Patch on the Quilt.

You did actually work.

We have the images from the Festival of the Quilts here where you displayed a lot of the work from the book.

Yeah.

It's one of the freshest ideas I've seen in quilting in a long time.

Think sampler quilt, but with a moody, magical, modern twist that lets you build skills one block at a time while creating something completely unique.

The designers involved are clever and creative.

I'm Brandi Maslowski, and if there's one thing I've learned from hundreds of conversations with quilters, artists, entrepreneurs, and makers from around the world, it's this.

There isn't one right way to build a creative life.

Some of my guests found quilting as children, others discovered it later in life.

Some are building businesses, some are winning awards, and some are simply making time to create between work, family, and everything else life throws in their way.

What they all have in common is a willingness to stay curious, keep learning, and keep making.

So this project is so important.

In total, Spain has sent 29 to contribute towards Rhonda's Quilt.

and that's wonderful and we've all enjoyed doing it too but I think there is a lasting message here that has made us all more aware and has started a conversation with my friends here in Spain if they've seen what I've been making on Instagram or if they've come into my sewing room they've asked me about it on Instagram there's a lot more awareness a lot more conversation going on all in all I think it's been a fantastic project and will be even better with this great big quilt that Rhonda is sewing together and going to show all over the country.

Rhonda is an inspiration.

There's nearly all baking apples in there.

And then on the other side of the green, you know where Quilt lives and all them? Yeah.

Grange Avenue, Grange Road.

The other side of that, where them bungalows are now, that was another massive big orchard.

They were incredibly impactful and helped build both my skills and confidence.

I had some of your fabric collections by then, but wanted to wait until I was sure what I was going to do to use them, so chose to use Lori Holt fabrics for the class quilt.

So that's the picture of that one there on the bed, the top.

Brenda is a quilter and a board member of Minnesota Quilters Incorporated.

That's a statewide quilting organization.

She was director of the organization's annual quilt show for five years until retiring from that role in 2024, and before that, Brenda was a biology professor and dean with Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
