When did you last stop long enough to enjoy the fruits of your labour? In this solo episode, Eileen explores Lughnasadh, the ancient Celtic harvest festival, and the invitation it carries for our…
Hello, hello, woo crew, and welcome back to another episode of the Woo Curious Podcast.
I am your host, Eileen, and I'm here today with a solo episode for you all about Lughnasadh, the festival, the celebration, the next turn of the wheel in the Wheel of the Year.
So let's talk a little bit about, to begin, the history, the themes of this year, the energies of this year, the timing, all those bits.
And then I want to get into a discussion of some of the mythology around this celebration, which is connected to the god Lugh and his foster mother, Tailtiu.
[lips smack] And I wanna talk a little bit about celebrating ourselves and enjoying the fruits of our labors.
And Lugh and Tailtiu's story is going to come into this discussion because I think it really provides a, a beautiful kind of reference for us or, or a poignant place for us to explore this theme together.
I'm currently reading a book by Elise Loehnen called The Seven Deadly Sins and the Price Women Pay to Be Good.
I'm actually rereading it for a book club, and I've gotten through sloth, I've gotten through pride.
I'm now into envy.
And of course, as I read, it's sparking all these things in my mind that I wanna share.
And so the first two of the seven deadly sins, that's a whole other episode we could go into.
Actually, we probably should.
Anyways, [laughs] the first two make their appearance in what I wanna talk about in today's episode.
So let's start.
I actually do have some notes because, as you can tell probably already, I am very prone to wandering wildly off track.
