Have you ever been in a room that felt safe, until suddenly it wasn't?In this impromptu solo episode, Eileen shares what happened when she found herself in a business course this week alongside…
Hello, hello, Woo Crew, and welcome back to another episode of the Woo Curious podcast.
I am your host, Eileen, and I'm here today with a solo episode for you.
This is a pretty impromptu solo episode.
I don't have any notes.
I don't know exactly what I'm gonna say.
I don't know how long it's gonna be.
But I was writing an Instagram post this morning that was prompted by an experience I had this week, and I quickly realized as I was writing the post that it wasn't gonna give me the kind of space that I needed or wanted to explore the topic.
And so I was like, "Well, of course, this becomes a podcast episode.
This might even become a Substack writing," which might be a little more eloquent than the way I approach it here.
But I needed to address the situation.
And so I find myself in these situations not super frequently, but they happen, and every time they happen, they catch me by surprise.
And the situation is thus: I'm in a room with people.
I've been drawn to that room, and this could be a virtual room or a real room, for a reason.
And I feel comfortable, and I feel like I'm connecting with the people in the room.
I feel like I'm getting to know them or maybe know them well.
And then I learn something about someone in that room that is just so incongruent with my values and the way I understand the world and the way I understand other humans that it throws me for a loop.
And it makes me question if I belong in that room at all.
Maybe they don't belong in that room.
That's also a possibility.
But it's really making me aware of the rooms that I want to be in and the ones where I feel really good and when I get to voice my true core values, my hot takes, all of those things, they're received by people who are, even if not in full agreement with me, at least in alignment values-wise.
And so the experience that I had, I was in a business marketing course.
It was a mini course.
It was like this teaser to something bigger.
It was spicy and a little on the edge of my comfort zone, and not fully in the energy that I'm usually in, but I knew that the person delivering it had some wisdom, some magic to offer me.
And so I was there, and a dear, dear friend who I definitely know I hold similar values with was in the room with me.
