This week we go in depth into Vlatko Andonovski's "mutual" departure from the KC Current and layout a bunch of things you probably didn't know happened leading up to it, cover the reactions from…
The shock heard around the city.
The current parted ways with Vlatko and Anofsky and announced so in a four-sentence press release only available through email and their websites.
I'll actually have you read it if that's okay.
Yeah, absolutely.
It reads, the Kansas City Current announced today that it has mutually parted ways with sporting director Vlatko Andonofsky.
Both parties determined that Andonofsky's requested transition from coaching into the sporting director role at the end of last season was not the right fit.
Andonofsky joined the KC Current's technical staff as head coach for the 2024 season and then sought the move to sporting director in November 2025.
The Kansas City Current wishes Ananofsky well in his future endeavors.
Firstly, it was four lines long.
78 words with a line break in between each line, maybe to possibly make it seem longer.
They use a picture for all of their press releases.
The picture is usually related to whatever is in said releases.
This time around, they used a picture of CPKC Stadium, so they didn't even have a picture of FlagCo on the press release.
We'll get into what the players, who are clearly not happy, had to say about this later.
But one thing they said that I'll get into right now was that the press release forgot to mention his accomplishments of the most successful regular season in NWSL history, and that would be in 2025.
When I first saw that, I thought they meant like they had listed a bunch of his accomplishments, just none from 2025, which is pretty messed up.
No, they didn't mention any accomplishments, which is interesting.
So we're going to get into a lot of what transpired over the last week, the response from the players, the response from the fans, the silencing of disapproval from the current, the media reaction, the unfortunate pattern we're seeing from ownership, and, you know, a little bit more.
But first, I want to go over all of Vlatko's accomplishments, because someone has to, and And then we want to go back to when this all started because we feel like a lot of people didn't see this coming and we might have some proper context.
Go ahead.
After they mention his first and last name, they refer to him as Andonofsky two other times.
