Evaluating Michael Wilson's Contract2:01 – 15:47

2:01

Hello, Arizona Cardinals fans, and welcome to the latest edition of the Rise Up Searhead podcast of the Star Cardinals Talk on the Web.

2:07

I'm your host, Jess Root from CardsWire.com, USA Today's NFL wire site that covers, of course, your Arizona Cardinals.

2:13

And joining me is my co-host, Seth Cox from RevengeoftheBirds.com. SB Nation's Arizona Cardinal site.

2:21

And we have episode 816.

2:23

And this is the reaction to Michael Wilson's new contract.

2:26

Michael Wilson got a new contract extension.

2:29

Three years.

2:31

Out through 2029.

2:33

And $75 million is what is reported.

2:38

Not a cheap deal at all.

2:39

And the way it happened is kind of weird.

2:43

Because we had a report where...

2:47

It said, oh, it's not going to happen.

2:49

And then it was, oh, there's been some movement.

2:52

And then, oh, there's a deal.

2:55

But we want to talk about a lot of different things about this.

2:58

The first being the numbers.

3:02

Was it the right price for the right production? Some might say it's an overpay.

3:06

Some might think it's right about right.

3:09

An average of $25 million per year for a guy who was a 1,000-yard receiver.

3:18

Is that the numbers that came in? How do you feel about those numbers?

3:24

I mean, the first thing is you look at it and you go, based on what we've seen around the NFL, it's a fair deal.

3:39

And then kind of from there, you start to really dig into different things.

3:43

I think the first thing that you look at with him is the $25 million a year compensation.

3:51

When you look at $25 million in terms of contract average for wide receivers – That's going to put him right in between Devante Smith and Nico Collins.
