Join us on this episode of the Public Lands Podcast as we talk to Joe Ramos, the Parks Business and Operations Manager, about the importance of parks and how we can protect them.
Joe RamosGuestKimHostFinolaHostUm, so you have business and operations in your title.
Can you talk a little bit about, I mean, I, when I think of parks and like managing them, I think I automatically think of the operation side of it.
And maybe many folks do operations as in, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, uh, like irrigation lines, restroom things, um, Maybe managing the amenities that are there.

My understanding about this is so that's a really unique title, right? Like no other operations manager that I'm aware of here in the department.

And without, you know, I wasn't here, I wasn't interviewing or on the panel, excuse me.

I don't think they either got what they were looking for or it didn't really fit the bill.

But the job went out originally as an operations manager, full stop, just like any other job.

So they thought about it under the previous administration and they added the business sort of facet in there because they think they wanted people who are candidates.

in their individual pieces in the sense that, okay, yes, this needs to be fixed, this playground, this slide, this bathroom, but what does that ecosystem look like? What does that look like holistically? And what I tell our staff and even the supervisors is people hear business and they think profit, because it's America, that makes total sense.

But our business, at least if you ask me, is creating really good memories for people.
