This week, the crew waxes lovingly about the Midrange archetype! What are its strengths and weaknesses in Pauper Commander and why, for the love of god, can't we stop playing it?? **Socials**…
Yeah, like I said, we know we were kind of spitballing some stuff, and I know you and I, Brad, when we talk quite a bit about deck building, it just usually ends up just what we just call those good stuff piles.
Just piles, man.
Yep, correct.
Just like, hey, this is a good card.
It probably belongs in this deck.
Um, and I know we said there's been great deck brewers across, you know, the many episodes that you guys have done and, you know, a lot of that discussion of synergy over just a general good card.
If the juice is worth a squeeze, right.
There's been a lot of topics about this, um, kind of directing away from, from that mid range game plan.
Um, but kind of my thoughts on this was, is it just kind of, you know, can sometimes coagulate into just, you know, if it's just four mid range decks in a pod, like, um, Is that the games that last three hours or what's going on there? So I just kind of wanted to sit down and chat just kind of about the thoughts of mid-range, like the beliefs, how to maybe potentially get better and kind of more of some of that deck building, right? Where it's kind of like the pre-con problem, maybe where like everyone building these mid-range piles to kind of answer everything almost like a pre-con would.
And again, especially kind of down in the LPDH land where you know the the power level is pretty even um just kind of how we can kind of break through this or just help our decks get better and win more games
and that's uh what we're all here for win some games have some fun i did want to ask liam i know obviously you're like the aggro guy you do a lot of mono red stuff a lot of burn a lot of aggro have you ever fiddled around with mid-range what's your thoughts on the archetype
so in magic i am the burn guy There are other games that do not do burn quite as well as magic.
does not do burn incredibly well.
It has a few very expensive, like, lava axes to face, and it has a few very expensive, I can shock your unit.
Mm-hmm.
More often than not, you're probably doing ping damage to a couple different things.
So I have found myself more enjoying the mid-range strategy,
where
swarming the board and playing an overrun effect while also being flexible enough to react to what my opponent is doing has been infinitely more fun in that game.
And so when Dax was like, let's talk mid-range, I was like, yes, I would love to talk Star Wars on my magic podcast.
So as I talk about cards today, I will do my best to translate them to Magic terminology.
Sure.
