So cell-free DNA testing, even to your average working anatomical pathologist, it sounds like something from the future.

Cancer is the second leading cause of deaths worldwide, as known by the WHO, and it's known as a genetic disorder that has accumulated genetic alterations.

And recently, we have been able to test the circulating free DNA that comes out from the tumors as they grow in patients.

They come out in their bloods, and so we can test this fragment of DNA that is getting out in the circulation and check for those genetic alterations in the circulating tumors.

And not surprisingly, tumor cells also release DNA in the blood and you can test that as well.

So it sounds like a really great new test, but it's just an added test to what we've been doing as pathologists for many years.
