Leading our discussion today is Associate Professor Robyn Saw.

Robin is the Head of Department in Melanoma and Surgical Oncology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and a faculty member of Melanoma Institute Australia.

We're also joined by Associate Professor Linda Martin.

Linda is a dermatologist at a Melanoma Institute Australia-affiliated clinic, a staff specialist in paediatric dermatology at the Sydney Children's Hospital and Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales.

Professor Tamara Corti is the Director of Interstitial Lung Disease at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the lead for the Centre of Research Excellence for Pulmonary Fibrosis at the University of Sydney.

A really good example of pulmonary fibrosis is silicosis because it's so clear, the relationship between being a stonemason and developing the disease.

But there are a lot of other occupations or even non-occupations, just exposures that are not quite as clear.

He has strong interest in clinical, scientific and technological innovation in cardiology.

As founder of the Trans-Catheter Heart Valve Program at Royal Prince Alfred, he's established a program that has set benchmarks for excellence in clinical outcomes on an international level.

Notably, Professor Ng has pioneered firsts in minimally invasive treatment of heart disease, synergistic to his clinical interest, Martin also heads a National Health and Medical Research Council-supported bench-to-bedside biomedical research program, and this seeks to address unmet patient needs by developing new treatments for heart disease.

Professor Ng is also the head of translational research and bioengineering at the Heart Research Institute and has won numerous awards for research and innovation.

Yep.

I ended up in RPA Hospital.

Did you? Having my heart being assessed.

Oh, no.

So you often don't recognize them.

A huge congratulations to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

40 years of liver transplants and 20 years at the Transplant Institute.

And when I met some of your colleagues recently, and we were just standing around at a function talking about what's going on at 2GB and what's happening at RPA.

So we're just incredibly grateful to the, uh, people who do decide to be organ donors, because without them, none of this, uh, could happen, obviously.

That's where we can all play a part.

And you never know, there might be someone listening right now who may have a liver inside them that was donated and transferred at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Dr. Michael Crawford is the head of transplant surgeries at RPA.

And he really leaned into that and he used that a lot to sort of climb all the ladders that he was able to climb.

And after he finished his initial medical courses in 1951, Bailey then was able to secure residencies at both Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Broughton Hall.

And Broughton Hall was a psychiatric clinic located at Callum Park.

And by that point, he's 28 years old.

Think again, you can never muck around with your health and you certainly don't muck around with chest pain and things like that.

So I organized for my wonderful partner, Trent, to meet me at the airport, pick me up and take me straight to RPA, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, which is thankfully around the corner from where I live.

Get into the emergency department and when you front with chest pains, they do make you a bit of a priority.

so it wasn't too bad on Monday afternoon even though it was a long weekend or Monday evening as it was by the time we got there they were amazing at getting me in there getting my blood pressure taken which always runs on the low side and that was kind of about normal so that was okay my heart rate was okay a little bit higher than it should be and so then I was triaged and I thought to spend the next eight hours until 3 30 in the morning being in the amazing care of the emergency department of RPA as they ran double lots of tests, ECGs, chest x-rays, double lot of blood work to double check and make sure that there wasn't anything sinister going on with my heart, heart attack, stroke or any of those sorts of things.
