I am amazed at the fact I'm sitting in 90-degree weather right now, but the difference between us in the U.S. and people in, oh, say, Europe, we believe in air conditioning, Guy.

Oh, I wish we had that here, although the temperature has dropped, and it was incredibly hot for several weeks, and the ground has been scorched, but it's dropped now, and we've had quite a bit of rain over the last few days, so we're relieved to see it, but...

Guy Anderson, what is the cultural phenomena that most Europeans do not have air conditioning?

Well, they tend to on the continent of Europe, but not here in the UK, because we don't get weather really that dramatic enough to warrant it.

We tend to just get a few weeks each year where it's hot.

But oddly enough, you know, a lot of shops and restaurants and businesses do have air conditioning, but it's relatively new.

I do actually have a unit here myself, but it's in the back of a storeroom.

And because we don't have...

Typically long periods of heat.

I decided not to bother getting it out.

I live in quite an old stone building, so it doesn't get that hot in here.

It's quite well insulated.

But yeah, we're just not geared up to it.

The trains stop.

We have all sorts of problems when it gets hot here.

And you would think by now we would be used to it.

No, but you're not.

And in fairness, with respect, on the continent of Europe, it's just as rare as it is in England.

Sorry? I said, with respect, on the continent, air conditioning is just as rare as it is in England.

Well, it tends to, once you go into sort of the south of France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, obviously it's a lot hotter than it is here.

So they are more prepared for it.

But I don't know whether or not many homes have it.

But certainly, you know, I travel around Europe quite often.
