Episode Nine: Interviewing our Agent

Can you even fathom? No.

Yeah, what am I looking for? I mean, you know, good books, like, some good books.

I mean, I think I'm always...

As a reader, if I'm between, you know, books that I'm excited about reading, I'm picking up a mystery and a thriller.

And so I'm always looking for mysteries and thrillers.

I'm looking for...

Are they

selling in the same way, do you think?

No, I think it's slowed down a little bit.

Yeah.

But I think they're evergreen.

So I think that, you know, something – I think good ones are still selling, and I think ones that have, you know, killer twists and whatever.

There's lots of different ways you can do that.

I don't subscribe so much to, like – What's the hot thing that's selling right now? And that's what I should be looking for, partially because I'm so editorially focused.

And so I know that like something that I'm signing in August, like we're not going out with it in September, like almost definitely not.

Right.

Like we're probably some time away from actually going out with it.

And so it has to have legs.

And then I talk a lot about about publishing's interest is on like a big circle now.

And like whatever is at the top is going to start sliding down and be at the bottom and then it will come back again.

And so I think that's why I'm always just looking for really good books.

And so I, you know, so no, I don't.

And thrillers, mysteries maybe have slowed down a little bit right now.

I think everything has slowed down a little bit right now in different ways.

And so I think it is just like, OK, so you have to find someone who.
