Send us Fan Mail **The good, the bad and the downright disastrous. Tom Pattinson’s full of positivity in the garden, harvesting and storing seeds…
Talk about heat, warmth, high temperatures, plants struggling under the midday sun.
One good thing that's come from it for me is that we're getting some pointers, early pointers, on which plants are going to survive best in the future as global warming really kicks in.
This apparently has been the hottest July in this country since records began.
And, uh, some of them will be on the list in future for survival in this garden.
But as plants fail to conform, to go with the flow, uh, can't stand the heat, et cetera, then we'll gradually weed those out.
Um, we keep a horse, and we save the droppings from the horse, the horse manure, weather it for about a year outside, and then it makes marvelous bulky material, uh, for the garden, digging into the garden.
And it's used as a mulch around raspberries, strawberries, all the, all the fruits and the top fruits, the pears, the apples, and plums, and of course, in the vegetable garden.
I'm thinking in terms now of the plants that are giving a little more, or they have something more to give.
The runner beans have cocked a snook at this heat, and they just keep on going and producing lovely, um, delicate, young, long beans.
