Mary and Rhoda are walking in.
They appear to be coming back from lunch and talking about some dates.
Paul, in particular, is who Mary's talking about, and they're going out Friday and Saturday night.
And Mary asks if that's funny.
Rhoda doesn't seem to be laughing, so I'm not really sure what we are joining them on right now.
It feels like we walked into the middle of a conversation as the show began, but apparently Mary is just telling Rhoda for the first time-- I'm sorry, Rhoda is telling Mary for the first time that she's out of a job.
So that is very interesting that Mary would ro-- Mary would just be finding out now.
Lou comes in just after Rhoda said that and gave Mary some orders, and now Mary wants to talk to Rhoda, but Rhoda says to, "Go back to work.
I don't want you to get fired, too." Ted walks in, and Murray, just as Rhoda says the word "fired," and wants to know what's going on.
And of course, Ted is grilling Rhoda, trying to find out why she was fired from the department store.
And Ted is talking about doing a report on the unemployment, unemployment crisis.
It's at an all-time high this year.
And then he says-- or is it at a low? And Murray says, "Hi, Ted," as in unemployment is high.
But Ted responds, "Hi, Murray." And Lou comes back out of his office yelling at everyone that they have work to do, and Mary is late, pointing to all the clocks that are in different time zones, saying she's late all over the world.
And Rhoda is preparing to leave.
She has a free afternoon.
She doesn't know what she's gonna do, but she decides she'll take a little walk and get her mind off not having a job and maybe do some window shopping and then realizes, nope, that's probably a bad idea, and she'll take the bus home and says goodbye to Mary.
