Leviticus 1-3 Leviticus opens like this: “Then the Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying…” This makes it clear that it is continuing the story revealed in Exodus…
And his glory, as we just read in Exodus chapter 40, has filled the tabernacle.
Now God's glory has filled the tent of meeting, and the situation has changed.
And so Leviticus is going to give instructions about all those things, atonement, ritual purity, and holiness.
And it opens in chapters 1 through 7 by providing instructions for the various sacrifices that will be needed.
And those five main sacrifices are the burnt offering, the grain offering, the peace or probably better fellowship offerings, what has traditionally been called the sin offering or better the purification offering, and then the guilt or reparation offerings.
And I will put a chart on the homepage of the website for Leviticus summarizing all five.
So you can, at a real quick glance, get a grasp of what each of those five sacrifices is.
But the main thing to note here is that each of them has their own part to play in facilitating and expressing Israel's relationship with their high and holy king.
In this recording, we're going to look at Leviticus chapters 1 through 3, and that provides the instructions for the first three offerings or sacrifices.
