!Len Edgerly and Kevin Keith ***With Kevin Keith in 2022 at the launch of Kindle Scribe*** **Links** ***Note: I…
You know, uh, the first, uh, item, page turn buttons, I can always tell what matters most about a tech event that I've attended by, uh, what I hear myself telling Darlene afterward, and today's briefing, uh, yesterday's briefing with Kevin Keith left no doubt in my mind what she would wanna know about, about, uh, above all else, buttons.
Uh, she has never gotten used to advancing the pages on her Kindle by touching the screen, and that's why she fell in love with the Kindle Oasis, uh, that was introduced in 2016.
It, it, uh, it was an odd iteration of the Kindle because it had two batteries, a small one inside the reader and then a larger one built into its leather cover.
So when you had the cover on, they were both charging and, and, uh, it, it increased the battery but left the reader very thin.
Uh, but the thing Darlene loved about it survived until the, the last Oasis, introduced in 2019, and that was the physical button system of page turns.
Uh, when her original Oasis finally died, uh, a generous Kindle Chronicles listener...
I wish I could remember who had done this, but if you're listening and you know, uh, send me an email at lenedgeally@gmail.com and, and let me know because she's been using this, uh, used Oasis right up till now, and it, it's, [laughs] you know, it's showing its age.
Uh, so I think that she's going to really enjoy having, uh, an alternative to the Oasis.
When I told her that the premium aluminum version of the new seven-inch, uh, Paperwhite, uh, is equipped s- with connectors so that, uh, she will be able to, to buy a case that adds the physical page turn buttons, as Kevin was demonstrating, uh, Darlene was pretty happy to hear about that.
And I think she also liked the idea of the Kindle Click, and that's where you, uh, you have a handheld thing.
You can set your, uh, y- your Paperwhite on a stand or just have it somewhere, uh, and then you, you advance the pages by [clock chiming] clicking the button.
I don't know if you can hear my great-grandfather's clock ringing in the other room there.
I'll be interested to see which, uh, kind of format Darlene chooses because she really always likes the smallest, lightest Kindle, and so that would be the, uh, basic sich- six-inch Kindle, uh, which is, uh, $150 for the plastic case.
I didn't see the price on what the aluminum version of that, somewhere higher than $150.
Uh, so if, if she gets that and the Click The clicker, then she can have buttons that she's using on the clicker to change the, the pages on, on that lightest version of the Kindle.
So that might be the sweet spot for her, you know, go really light on the, the device.
I think it'd be quite a bit lighter than the Oasis she has, and then also use the clicker.
But she might want to go for the Paperwhite Signature that's $250 and then pay an ad- an additional $80 for the, uh, cover that has the page turn buttons on it.
I think she might prefer that because, uh, the clicker's cool, but it looks like the kind of thing you could misplace.
You know? You, you'd have to remember, "Well, I'll take my Kindle and the clicker." Um, and if you have the Paperwhite Signature with the cover, then you always have the...
