Send us Fan Mail **The Power of Presence: Why Leadership Is Felt Before It's Heard** **Featuring John K. Bates | The Inspired Entrepreneur Podcast…
John BatesGuestDeborah HartnettHostToday we're really here to empower people's leadership and in particular the presence of leadership, leadership presence, and I know communication is a really big part of that.
So the first question that I have for you is one of the things that I've heard you say is that people feel us as leaders, well, not even as leaders, as people, right? We're felt before we're actually heard.

You know, people say when you walk in a room or you're speaking or whatever, people make up their mind in the first few minutes, and I think that's wrong [laughs], you know? I think it's the first few nanoseconds, because when you look at our brains and you look at how we're processing things, that stuff happens really, really fast, and it's not happening as much in the conscious part of our brain.

So understanding that and bringing that into how you show up anywhere is really important.

So one of the things that I say is communicating with human beings is not logical.

Once you understand the biology, you can make it logical to some degree, but people who go in thinking logic by itself should win, well, maybe it should, but it doesn't, and they're just never gonna be as effective with human beings as people who understand there's something else.

And in real life, just to bring this down to brass tacks, tell me if you've ever had an experience like this.

"Do you like the product?" "Oh, yeah, we like it." "Do you think it's priced right?" "Oh, yeah.

Good price." "Do you think it would make a difference for you to have it?" "Certainly, yes." "Well, do you wanna sign the check and we'll start delivery?" "No, w- we're not ready yet.

We wanna think about it." Okay, why would people do that? Yes, yes, yes, no, right? Like, what's going on? Are they lying? No.
