Death is inevitable, but how much do we really understand about it? This week on Information Entropy, we're diving back into the science, mysteries and unanswered questions surrounding death. From…
Something that popped up that I came across was an experimental drug that kills fat cells rather than shrinking them.
In two small trials, people lost dangerous visceral fat around their internal organs, which is, that's the dangerous one, the ones that you really don't want.
The ones the doctor was like, oh, you've got fat around your heart and it's bad.
So an experimental drug may actually melt away a dangerous type of fat that packs around your internal organs.
People who got injections of the experimental drugs in their lower abdomen lost visceral fat.
Research has reported on October 1st, a week ago, at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Studies of Diabetes, which is held in Milan, um, So the visceral fat sits deep in the abdomen where it chokes organs and can spur inflammation and health problems.
The team already knew the expensive drug could reduce the subcutaneous fat, that's the pinchable fat that sits on the skin in the abdomen, That surface fat doesn't carry the same health risks as the visceral fat does.
In this new study, researchers examined MRIs from a subset of participants in two small clinical trials to track visceral fat levels.
The study participants who ranged from healthy weights to overweight got injected with the CBL-514 or placebo every three weeks for up to 12 weeks the two groups started with about the same amount of visceral fat so that's 642 milliliters on average in the cbl group and 677 milliliters in the placebo group four weeks after treatment those who got the experimental drug had dropped almost 71 milliliters of visceral fat which is a 12 decrease while the placebo group gained 31 millisies which they gain 6% or increase of the dangerous fat around their abdomens I wonder if that's to do with the psychology of thinking that you're getting a drug that is causing you to lose weight do you think ah I'm getting that maybe I can eat more and it's okay I wonder if that's got something to do something weird along those lines that's got something to do with it The measurements taken at the 8 to 12 weeks after the treatment showed that the gap had even winded.
So those who got the expanded muscle drug lost almost 63 milliliters, which is a fair amount of visceral fat on average, while the placebo group gained more than 78 milliliters of visceral fat over the starting points of the last Yeah, that's
rough.
The results suggest that the drug might have health benefits by reducing visceral fat, which contains the diabetes, contributes it.
it goes.
So larger clinical trials to test efficiency and safety are currently ongoing.
