In this episode, Laona and I talk about what really gets readers to notice and trust an indie book! From the cover art, tropes and blurbs to reviews, newsletters, and word of mouth! We discuss some of…
No, exactly.
I will say for me, I'm a very odd person because out of all the books that I've read, there are some that I would reread, don't get me wrong, but there is only one book that I have ever read that I would absolutely reread, technically two, and they're both dark.
So if you want one from my whole life, that would be A Child Called It.
It's not necessarily a comfort book, but I related to a lot of the stuff that he went through.
And so I find myself healing in that book a lot of ways because I'm like, I'm not by myself.
Now, a lot of the stuff that his mom did to him, I didn't have necessarily my hand held onto a stove and things like that.
But there's still some other parallels.
But now as an adult, 100% of the time I will tell you, Under Your Scars is my favorite book that I will, anytime you ask me to reread it, you don't even have to tell me twice.
Okay.
Okay.
It's my favorite book.
And it's not a comfort book in any way, shape or form.
It doesn't have a halfway over after.
It's tragic.
But I think I find solace in that because that book is just so powerful in so many ways.
And I think it sticks with me because it hit me.
Like I finished that book almost a year ago and I'm still to this day, every day I think about that book every single day.
So that would probably be my comfort read.
You go deep.
You're like, I'm not messing
around.
No, I like, I like the cutesy books for sure.
But for me, I, Because of the trauma that I have in my past and then because of my career choices that I've made, like I've worked at a jail where I worked with teenagers and a lot of those teenagers have perished because of their lifestyle choices.
I've had a girl be unalived by her pimp, essentially her trafficker.
I've been connected with so many deep things that around me that that is my solace because I can relate.
