Spring 2026, University of Missouri, Kansas City Alumni Awards presented you with the 2026 Defy the Odds Award.
It means a lot because as I was chatting with folks and learning what it took to get nominated for that award and to receive it, that was years in the making.
And that was people coming together saying, Tiffany deserves this recognition.
And for that to happen at the time that it happened really meant a lot to me because I shared with people all the time that defying the odds that that was for the team.
You know what I mean? That was for the people who sacrificed for me and my daughter.
That was for the professors that made room for me to bring her to classes.
That was for, you know, the members of the sorority that were watching Mani so I could go do a debate or lead a meeting or speak on a panel.
So the defying the odds, I know that I did not give it the publicity that it deserved, like on social media and stuff like that.
But for the people, that's because I just be tired and I don't have a lot of time.
But that that meant a lot because I also got to show my grandmother the video of me accepting that and how proud she was.
So when I think about being the great granddaughter of sharecroppers, of folks who had to work on land to live on that land, that's who that's for.
Your leadership falls in a political climate that is always pushing back against the very work you're doing.
As you continue to make hard calls regarding jobs, programs, strategies that require short-term pain sometimes, you said many of the decisions that matter kind of live in the gray area, right? They're not between good or bad, but between competing responsibilities, competing needs.
Those that need the help can get it and you're successful in what you're trying to do at the end.
