And what we find, a little bit of context around this letter, is that Hebrews is written to Christians who were under pressure.

And Jazzy talked a little bit about this last week, that they were feeling pressured to go back to Judaism because at the time Christians were being persecuted, many of them were being martyred.

And so this small group of Christians that this letter is written to, maybe 15 to 20 Christians who are a part of a big network of home churches, so similar to our home gathering model, They were being pressured to reject Christ and to say they didn't believe in Christ.

And if they said we are Christians, then they were actually liable maybe to even be thrown to the lions.

And so we find in this time that this group of Christians were feeling persecuted, discouraged, angered.

and greatly opposed by the people around them, especially the Roman Empire, right? And so they're feeling it.

Today we're camping out in Hebrews 3 and 4. where the author really introduces this idea of rest.

But I want to recap Hebrews 3 and 4 rather than read it because I want to encourage you guys to read it in your own time.

I cannot do it justice if I sat here and read Hebrews 3 and 4 because it is weighty.

And so instead of spending all of my time reading those two chapters, I want to encourage you to sit with those couple of chapters in your own time to let it sink in to our hearts, to our brains, to our souls, and do the work that the Word of God wants to do in our hearts.
