Grain Elevator Values: $5 a Bushel to Build, $1.50 to Buy

There's parts of North America that haven't had a great crop and it's affected them dramatically.

So I feel for those people.

I see it.

It's difficult to merchandise without any bushels or without the, you know, filling up the elevator.

So that's why I always take the median number because there are struggles in different parts of North America.

And there's people that have knocked it out of the park.

So instead of using averages, I like medians.

And the median has gotten better ever.

It seems like the last three or four years, we're actually trending up again.

It's been fantastic.

The expenses have gone up a bit.

I'll say we're still, the median number is a little bit north of 70 cents, a bushel of space that I see.

So I think that's a great number.

I was happy to see the gross profit go up like that, knowing that some of our expenses have gone up.

Insurance, people are still talking a lot about insurance, obviously.

Interest is higher, so that affects our net income as well.

But gross profit's up.

I'd say payroll's probably 26 cents a bushel of space if you look at a 3 million bushel elevator.

So people have managed to keep that number the same, and that has to be very difficult.

A lot of people are working hard out there.

And I'm seeing projects come back.

Roger and Jason, I get to talk for a number of years there when the prices of concrete and steel spiked and the interest rates spiked.

I didn't get to hear very much about, hey, I'm building a new elevator.

I'm doing this.
