What would class specializations look like in a FromSoft game? Could a dedicated passive or skill tree work in a mainline Soulsborne game? Join the show once again and get answers to these questions…
AK SpartanHostCrimsonHostYeah, it's definitely good to be back.
I really think the Nemesis system could be really well implemented by From.
Especially in an open world Souls game like Elden Ring, you could have random enemies slowly develop into like mini bosses or field bosses such as Say you die to some of the soldiers near Stormvale and they get little promotions and end up being like a heavy armored enemy in the actual castle who, when you come across, would actually have some sort of unique interaction with you.

There's some because that system is that's kind of the tragedy of that system, right? That nobody else can use it.

That's kind of what I was getting at at the very beginning, because I think this is such a cool idea.

And actually, when you started talking about it there, Crimson, what would you think about this? This is how I might actually do that, just to run with your idea for the Nemesis system.

Elden Ring does have an entire category of bosses called field bosses that all have their own lesser variants that are just regular enemies, like Clean Rat Knights, Leonian Misbegotten.

You could do something like that where you're using that nemesis system and maybe a lesser clean rot knight becomes a boss version or maybe it's knights cavalry tracking you down because that's the thing with those Lord of the Rings games is it's not just one thing it's that system is so deep I guess is what I'm saying that it's not just that they track you down they also get new stats they remember your moves and stuff this would be like if you killed a clean rot knight with frost damage four times in a row you were just farming it all of a sudden it is a boss version of a clean rot knight that remembers you is pissed off and is immune to frost attacks.

But what would you think about taking that system and using it that way with that type of specific enemy?
I really think that's a good idea.
It's something From I feel would do really well with, especially because they're so good with their dynamics between enemies and implementing little things like that, such as in Dark Souls 2, if you fight a certain boss named Velstat with the helmet and armor of the Fume Knight.
In lore, they've had prior interactions and conflict.
And because of that, you start the Velstat fight in second phase.
So I feel like FromSoft would be able to use the Nemesis system in an open-world Souls game that they make very well if they were given access to it.

To be fair, we're talking about with the Nemesis system, I do think that in a vacuum is one of the single most impressive video game systems of all time.

And FromSoftware is, of course, one of the best video game developers of all time.

What I'm saying is, you know, we're talking about pairing one of the best single systems of all time with one of the most inventive, creative, and just all around incredible developers in FromSoftware.

There's not really a way this would fail, right? And I mean, again, this is something that isn't, there's no way this ever happens.

There's no way they ever play around with it unless something crazy happens with that system.
Yeah, it's definitely good to be back.
