you go opposite way around go for ollie

yeah when i first passed out training i went straight to northern ireland that was my first tour and then um we came straight back from that and then we're called out to desert storm um um but I don't know I came back from there and I was I was pretty I'll tell you what I was I was in Northern Ireland and as a young lad um this is how my first I was I was disillusioned at a very early stage in my career and I had a I don't know if you call it an epiphany I don't know what to call it but I had a realization pretty shortly after getting to Northern Ireland I kind of I looked at the things they were asking us to do, and I didn't have any faith in what was happening out there.

I just came up with this assumption that all these jobs they were asking us to do, all these sort of missions, operations, whatever, it was just...

It was just the fact that I didn't believe there was any credibility in them.

you know, a cannon fodder because they obviously got their information, their intelligence from the follow-up, you know, and I just had that realisation.
Yeah,

You know, it's just I wanted something, and actually knowing that was there, knowing that there's something better out there, was the driving force.

You know, if that wasn't out there, maybe I wouldn't have been, maybe I would have learned to be more satisfied.

But when you know there's something out there that you can better yourself, there's a bigger part of the power you can have or whatever.

It was actually my officer from 4-5 Commando that saw me one day when I had my notice in to leave.

He said, if you don't leave, you're going to regret that for the rest of your life.

If it wasn't for him saying those words, giving me that tiny bit of confidence, I wouldn't have put in for SF.
if he ever had a go?
