Jamila finds herself in a marriage that has brought her deep disappointment and regret. Got a dilemma? Call **1-800-DR-LAURA / 1-800-375-2872** or make an appointment at…

Um, I'm gonna get straight to the point.
I-
... and [laughs] um, I knew the right thing to do intellectually with who to marry and how to have discipline with my health and just the right things to do n- n- namely because of you.
I didn't have parents who taught me that.
You were in the background playing at my grandparents' house growing up, and I ended up reading all your books.
I knew it, and I intellectually knew it, but I didn't follow through on it.
I made lots of bad decisions, and I thought that I would be able to live with them.
And for seven years I did, until everything came crashing down, and it destroyed everything that was a blessing in my life, from my health, um, to my career, because I can no longer do my career that I love because my health just went kaput.
And, um, I'm in a position right now where I'm 43, I have a six-year-old, and I am on disability, um, after having gone from playing soccer 20 years to this.
And I, I didn't know that marrying the wrong person and ignoring the wisdom and that gut instinct in my life would literally destroy everything.
Um, and it happened gradually on this-

And I-- He was never verbally abusive towards me when we were married before that, but h- I did see anger come out of him directed towards others.
But I always thought, "You know what? It's not great, but I can manage because he's pretty awful with them, but he's not awful with me." And the moment I became vulnerable, I was a stay-at-home mom, um, it was the moment, honestly, that I became vulnerable.
And I was-
