PROPERTY TAXES!!! How can we fix them and who is the best candidate for Governor of Ohio to take charge?
Christopher SmithermanGuestErin KaplanGuestSo on the show today in studio with me is my friend Aaron Kaplan from Edward Jones.
We also have my good friend Christopher Smitherman calling in at 9.15. We're going to be talking some election because, you know, what's coming up in November.
However, we've got a choice for governor this year that if you really look at it, if you really do some research and compare Amy Acton's plan versus Vivek Ramaswamy's plan, there are some stark differences.
You know, one of my ideas with property taxes, and maybe he can, you know, take this to the statehouse and maybe work on it, is if you're a senior citizen, if you're, I think, a 65 or older, There is what's called a homestead exemption, right? Unfortunately, though, there is an income restriction with that homestead exemption.
Now, it doesn't give you a complete exemption from your property taxes, but it certainly lowers them to a good percentage.
So my suggestion was because, you know, if you're retired, you're more than likely on a fixed income, right? So why should your property taxes, why should your taxes, why should anything in your budget have to be raised or go up if you're on a fixed income? So my proposal is, hey, why don't we just – why don't you just eliminate that – um income restriction for the homestead exemption i think right now it sits at about what 45 maybe 40 45 000 a year if you're 65 or older and making 45 000 a year chances are you're not you don't own a home i mean that with that amount of income that it's almost impossible to own a home unless you've paid it off right but even and that's a whole nother story if you're if you paid your house and off then you shouldn't pay property taxes at all but that's just my opinion But just eliminate that restriction or raise it to a respectable amount.
If you're 65 or older and let's say you're making, I don't know, the income restriction would maybe kick in at $150,000.
If you're making less than $150,000, you should be able to get that homestead exemption.
