Welcome back to Episode 3! This week the gang had a special guest on the line. Paul from Actual AFL joined us to help introduce a new weekly segment with a 'Player of the Round' focus. There was lots…
All right, back into it, moving into Bay 13.
Guys, what have you got for me this week that you saw on
the weekend? One thing that stood out for me was the turf at Vic Park.
I think if that's what the MCG had looked like after the NFL match, we would be in arms about it.
I think...
I'm sure the ground staff do what they need to do and working with the tools they have.
However, I think that that just wasn't AFL standard.
There were... like mud patches everywhere and sand patches everywhere.
I just, we need to be better than that to make our game flow well and be a professional standard of a game.
It needs to be better.
Yeah, I was saying to you before that I thought from memory, there was a game a couple of years ago where there was an issue with the turf at Vic Park and they pushed the game back 20 minutes, half an hour to try and fix it.
I can't remember exactly what it was, what the issue was.
But yeah, there's a real problem and it's got to be up to scratch if we're going to play a team's home games there.
Yeah.
Were there issues with the players? Like, were they losing footing? What about commentary? Did they mention
it? No, not from memory.
I don't recall any players slipping or having issues.
Obviously, I'd have to probably look back and look deeper into it.
But that was the first thing I noticed when I switched the game on.
I thought, bloody hell, this turf looks shit.
like that's that's why i wrote in my notes what i sent to you guys um i think if you think of the collingwood football club they want high standards there they're a club with a lot of money premierships galore um great facilities why is vic park looking the way it is i think that's really poor
it's an interesting discussion because i feel like it's almost this Like I've talked about this before, Crumb season one.
Like if Collingwood's AFLW team were the men's team and had such poor results over a period of time, it would be on the front page of the paper.
People would lose their jobs.
