CCTV Reconstruction of the Killings1:15 – 3:41

Thabiso GobaGuest

1:15

Good evening, Aubrey, and thanks for having me.

Thabiso GobaGuest

1:18

I wouldn't exactly describe what has been happening with the vigor and enthusiasm.

Thabiso GobaGuest

1:23

In fact, what's been happening has been incredibly tedious.

Thabiso GobaGuest

1:26

So what do you explain, Aubrey, as you said, that the police, well, in this case, this is a technical detective, Mr. Rajen Sanders.

Thabiso GobaGuest

1:37

He works in the serious crime division for SAPS.

Thabiso GobaGuest

1:40

So every time there's a serious crime, his job is basically to collate CCTV evidence and try to obviously paint a picture or try to analyze the CCTV evidence and how it can obviously help in solving the case.

Thabiso GobaGuest

1:55

So, Mr. Rajen Sanders has collected CCTV footage from about 17 different locations.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:01

It's about 22 pieces of footage with a combined time of about 22 hours.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:06

Now, over the past three days in the trial, Aubrey, there has been a very painstaking and forensic process of just going through that footage.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:16

That's why I said that...

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:18

It hasn't been, you know, something that I can describe as enthusiastic or vigorous.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:23

It has been quite tedious, but it is very, very important work.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:27

And what we've basically seen, Aubrey, and as I said, it was very forensic and very painstaking and very slow.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:35

But if I can just maybe summarize it for you, what we've seen is that on the 10th of February, when Keenan, a.k.a. Forbes, died, flew into Durban.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:47

He was followed.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:47

He was followed from the airport He was followed to his hotel.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:51

He was followed to a restaurant where he was eventually killed.

Thabiso GobaGuest

2:56

And, you know, this gives a bit of credence to the state version that this was a very, very well executed hit, which was premeditated.

Thabiso GobaGuest

3:07

And obviously, the people, the people, the seven men behind it, while there's only two shooters, while there's two people who pulled the trigger, But it was an entire operation that involved seven people working in common purpose to ensure that Mr. Forbes was killed.

Thabiso GobaGuest

3:25

We know that Tebe Lutib's Muzwane was not a target of the hit.

Thabiso GobaGuest

3:30

He did get caught up in the crossfire.

Thabiso GobaGuest

3:33

It was a matter of a wrong time, wrong place.

Thabiso GobaGuest

3:37

But when it comes to the case of Mr. Forbes, it was a well-executed hit.
