Episode 3: After Toronto (with Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson and Delainey Hayles)

I think we have to talk about Nicky-

Mm

...

in this episode.

Mm.

We have to talk about what Lestat reveals about Nicky in this episode.

Mm.

What do you, what do you make of that whole moment?

[sighs] Um, well, he was there when he was killed.

Mm-hmm.

And I think he, i- it's more about accepting responsibility.

He's more responsible for his death than he's probably ever let on.

Mm.

Um, obviously Armand did it, did the deed, and I think he's got a lot of, like, you know, residue left over from that.

I don't, you know...

And, and, and complex, 'cause he's sort of potentially grateful for, to Armand for doing that.

But, um, but yeah, I think he re- realizes, like, and it's a big lesson for Lestat.

He realizes he, he, he transformed somebody who he loves, but they weren't a good vampire, and that's, you've gotta be kind of good.

Mm.

You've gotta be, have a lot of potential to be this sort of ruthless being to exist in this world, and Nicky was too fragile and too emotional.

And, and he realizes in that moment, everyone keeps telling him it was a bad idea, or at least Gabrielle and, and Armand were.

And, um, and then he realizes, you know, when, as Nicky kind of descends further and further into madness, that there's no, there's no kind of, uh, point in keeping him alive.

It's more torturous to keep him alive, and he, he kind of does have to die.

Um, which is actually, it is a departure from the [laughs] narrative that, you know, what may- people might expect to see.

But I think it kind of, it, it really informs him, informs him for his decisions that he makes about Claudia later on in his life.
