For this week’s **Basketball Economics**, I’m building a fictional African basketball federation from scratch. Staff, national teams, grassroots, TV rights and more. **How much is this actually going…
Now, first problems, employees.
And apparently someone who likes basketball is not a job description.
We need someone running the federation.
Finance and administration, competitions and registrations, a technical director, national team management, grassroots and youth development, coaches and referees, commercial partnerships, and media and communications.
We're going with nine permanent staff.
Now, that doesn't mean we need to employ everybody who ever touches a basketball full time.
National team coaches, physios and other specialists can be contracted as and when we need them, but our permanent staff are getting proper professional salaries.
Because we can't demand competent governance and then pay our secretary general in vibes and a tracksuit.
We've barely started and we've spent nearly half a million dollars.
Excellent.
