The Marsh Nearly Ate My Shoe • The Alpamayo Circuit (Day 5)

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. What was supposed to be an easy seven-mile day dissolves into backcountry chaos. An impassable river forces a scramble off-trail straight up a steep hillside, a pitch-black marsh nearly swallows a shoe whole, and a runaway cow, a village woman on horseback, and a genuine riverbed chase provide the rest of the day's drama. **Daily Itinerary:** Day 5 of 9: Wild Camp (past Wicrococha) to Wild Camp (past Jancacucho) 🥾 6.8 mi (10.9 km) | +1,726 ft / -2,799 ft ⛺️ Campsite: Wild Camp (past Jancacucho) 🗓️ Recorded: Monday, May 25, 2026 Tent Talk is an immersive backpacking podcast hosted by sisters Audrey (Mountain Goat) and Haley (GPS, One More Mile Marshall, and Dr. Dolittle).
