Pushing a Wheelchair Or Carrying a Child When The Eruv is Down

Last Friday, there was a terrible storm with high winds all over the, uh, the tri-state area, and in the five towns, or as people who are not from the five towns say, the five towns, uh, there was, uh, the-the-there were trees that were coming down all over the place, and the eruv therefore came down.

Did you know this, that the eruv was down? Yeah.

On Erev Shabbos, the, uh, the-- as, as Shabbos was getting closer, it was very clear that the eruv was b'sakana, so I was getting all sorts of phone calls about what people should do if they're in a wheelchair, they have an elderly person at home that gets to shul only in a wheelchair, or if they have a-- if someone was going to a simcha in Queens, and they were worried that the eruv in Queens was gonna be down, but they have a toddler who can walk a little bit, they can toddle, but they're not gonna make it all the way to shul.

So what do you do? Is there, is there any heter to carry them? What do you do? You know, we're so used to having an eruv in certain communities that we're not really, uh, accustomed to what to do when it, when it comes down.

So I wanna discuss today specifically wheelchairs and children when it comes to a, a Shabbos where there is no eruv.
