Tech Gets Real: Protect Yourself in the AI Era

The Trump administration has placed export controls on Anthropic’s industry-leading Mythos and Fable models, prompting the company to disable access to both for everyone in the world. Europe’s…
Well, there was a big pushback at the time as well, but it didn't really amount to much, and it died down.
But along came the second Trump administration with its threats to annex Greenland, which is owned by an EU country, Denmark, rightly or wrongly, and to generally throw its weight around and make sure that everybody falls in line and punish them if they don't And there was a general realization across Europe that we are in trouble because we rely very heavily on American technology, as do most countries.
Not just consumers, but the public sector as well, law enforcement, intelligence agencies, everybody relies on American tech.
What happens if Trump decides to flip a kill switch? That was the big question, and now we're kind of seeing that in action.
So what happened was when Anthropic announced Mythos a couple of months ago, it set up something called Project Glasswing, which was a scheme that allowed organizations to get access to Mythos before anybody else could, so they could use it to find vulnerabilities in their own systems and patch them before attackers could find them with AI and exploit them.
But for some reason, Anthropic didn't allow European organizations, cybersecurity agencies, and so on to join Project Glasswing.
And incidentally, this may or may not be relevant, but the Financial Times reported earlier this month that the National Security Agency in the US has been using Mythos for offensive cyber operations.
Anyhow, the situation changed a couple of weeks ago when Anthropic finally granted European organizations access to Mythos, at least in theory.
