Thank you for being here! This episode is a little life update and a bestie catch-up after a few very chaotic weeks, followed by a Q&A answering some of your questions from Instagram. We get into…
Christina PengillyHostGuys, so I have officially signed with talent management for my socials, which I'm so excited about.
The best advice that I was ever given o- from a friend, Lang, she's also a social media, like, talent manager here on the Gold Coast, um, she said, uh, about probably this time last year, "I would stay self-managed for as long as you can so that you can really learn the industry, learn the workings of the business side of things, of influencing, whether it's, like, UGC or influencer work, and understanding com- communications, collaborations, negotiations, rates, what brands are looking for, how to actually ideate, outreach, uh, pitch to people, how to position your rates, whatever it is." Like, and I just feel like whilst there's always so much to learn, I really feel as though I know the industry very, very well now, and I have really pushed myself to a limit of, you know, I charge relatively, like, I believe, re- really well for someone that has been self-managed.
I have had majority of my work be inbound and repeat customers and clients, which is amazing 'cause it shows that the videos are getting results for my clients, especially in the UGC space.
And I have built that to my main income source, which has been incredible for the last r- really five to six months.
One, because I was like, well, I can do this myself, and I have shown myself that I can do it myself, and I absolutely love the communication side of things with business and with, you know, negotiating rates and getting, you know, concepts ordered and bringing things to life with me as the first point of contact with brands.
But then equally, I got to a point where over the last few weeks I was just slipping on things.
Like, I would have job opportunities come in that I would be, like, so excited about, but then I would fully forget about it or I would forget to, like, respond to the DM or I'd forget to send through an email, and I was, like, really starting to slip on really big opportunities.
Like, it's such a ceiling for me now where I have truly self-managed to the point where it is not actually going to be feasible for me to continue trying to manage everything as a control freak, and that was the other reason.
They were very, very big on me making sure I felt comfortable with the partnership.
I went and met with my manager yesterday in Brisbane, and the ball is well and truly rolling with that, which is so exciting.
And yeah, I spent so long self-managed to the point where I physically could, and I just really acknowledged that if I want to continue building this, there is no way that I can continue building that on my own, and it is going to require me to get support.
So basically they are going to manage all of my communications with the brands.
I will still very much be, um, in charge of creating, like, the concepts, bringing the content to life, and making sure that it does feel like me and my content is me, and it's not overly briefed or scripted.
Not on board with because I just value my authenticity and my community so much more than I value creating an ad for a brand that is obviously an ad.
