So in Mark chapter 6, verses 1 to 3, Jesus left there and went to his hometown accompanied by his disciples.
When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
"'Where did this man get these things?' they asked.
"'What's this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son?' and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon, and aren't his sisters here with us? And they took offense at him.
Now, Mark's gospel is one of the earliest of the gospels that was written.
And as we understand it, Mark probably gained a lot of his information from Peter.
Peter would have remembered this.
And as I read this, it sounds to me as if the people in the synagogue were being a bit rude to Jesus.
The way it's written rather suggests that they, well, it says they took offense at him, but let's look at what the circumstances were.
