Bible Reading: Psalm 89

Good morning, and welcome to the Oasis of Praise.

As our journey through the book of Psalms continues today, we're in Psalm 89, which is the final of book three of the Psalms.

Verse 14, "'Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne.

Mercy and truth go before your face.'" Now the date and the occasion of this Psalm are uncertain.

Most scholars believe that it was written near the end of the Southern Kingdom as Judah was about to go into captivity.

And it appears that everything was lost.

Now there are three divisions or parts to this particular Psalm, it's a little longer.

The structure of this Royal Psalm of Lament is a bit different.

Instead of ending in praise, it actually begins with the praise of God in verses 1 through 18.

Then the promises from God based upon the covenant with David, that's verses 19 through 37, followed by the plea to God in verses 38 through 51.
