Bron Breakker: What Went Wrong in WWE

The strange thing is that nothing went wrong in the beginning.

WWE truly put Breakker into a great position when he got into NXT, having him establish big victories over big names.

Within months, he was standing across Tommaso Ciampa, one of the most respected champions in NXT history.

Soon after, he won the NXT championship and became the face of that brand.

For over a year, WWE protected him as a future megastar.

He looked unbeatable, carried himself like a champion, consistently delivered big matches beyond his years of experience.

The problem started when he reached the main roster.

Many wrestlers truly feel a big hump to get over once they get to Raw or SmackDown, maybe because of the creative mixture, the different demands, and Breakker became a victim of that exact issue.

His rise, though, was carefully planned.

The next chapter felt clear.

After losing the NXT championship to Carmelo Hayes, WWE seemed unsure whether Breakker should maybe be a dominant babyface, an unstoppable heel, a future main event star waiting for an opportunity.

Instead of evolving his character, WWE kept presenting him as the same athlete spearing people out of their boots and shouting intense promos.

But it became repetitive once fans already had seen him dominate in NXT.

Characters need layers.

Roman Reigns became the Tribal Chief.

Cody Rhodes became the company's emotional centerpiece.

Seth Rollins has reinvented himself multiple times.

Breakker just remained Bron Breakker.

That lack of evolution may have hurt him in the long run.

The main roster significantly has a different demand on its characters than maybe NXT.

Athletic ability alone sometimes simply isn't enough.

You need that charisma.

You need something else to hook the fans.

Breakker still looked impressive, but he didn't feel as special.

Fans could watch Roman Reigns, Cody, CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Gunther, Jacob Fatu, and all the others on the same show.
