Episode 162: Fate and Destiny

Returning to us today for episode 162 is Jungian psychoanalyst Dr. Morgan Stebbins in Cold Spring, New York.

He graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a degree in philosophy and religious studies, and wrote an honors thesis on cult phenomena in modern American culture.

He went on to earn a master's degree in social work from Columbia University, and later attended the Union Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity with a thesis on Carl Jung and Jacques Lacan.

Dr. Stebbins trained as a Jungian psychoanalyst at the C.G. Jung Institute of New York, and graduated with a thesis on the Ten Commandments as a psychological path.

He later earned a doctorate in religious studies and hermeneutics from the New York Theological Seminary with the thesis The Bible as Psyche: Tools for Psychological Translation and Contemplation.

A Zen practitioner since 1979, he is the creator of the Contemplative Jung Program at the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care, and served as adjunct faculty from 2010 to 2015.

He has been on the faculty of the C.G. Jung Foundation of New York since 1992, and the New York Theological Seminary since 2012.

Dr. Stebbins was the original director of training for the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association of New York, known as the JPA, and continues to serve as a faculty member and supervising analyst.

His first book, A Jungian Approach to Transforming Compulsion: A Clinical and Symbolic Guide to OCD, was published on April 1st by Routledge, and was the subject of our discussion in episode 158.
