Data centers are becoming a major part of Nevada’s infrastructure landscape, bringing new questions about electricity demand, water consumption, cooling technology and grid capacity. Eric Henzl…
I would just underscore the point that the choice of cooling technology really matters in shaping that resource use trajectory for the facility moving forward.
And now moving forward, it seems like directed ship and immersion are kind of the main things.
And then there are additional opportunities for efficiency or to maybe offset some of this demand.
And so that's being done in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in northern Nevada.
And the idea is to continue offsetting data center water demand using that reclaimed water.
For energy, there's this idea of load flexibility, where data centers would curtail their energy use during peak demand hours.
And it's in that way that some people envision data centers as more of a flexible grid asset, potentially.
And then finally, even at the algorithmic or hardware levels, there may be additional opportunities for efficiency, though some of these gains remain speculative.
I mean, it's a very interesting topic, and I thank you for coming down to talk to us here in Southern Nevada about it.
