Fleming & Root get England's Test roles. What now for Brook? Could Stokes return?

We're gonna talk, uh, English cricket, and new coaches, and new captains.

Let's start with Steven Fleming.

Um, I, I think that was the really, the big news of the week, when the search for the coach finally ended.

And Doullie, you know him as well as anybody.

Tell us a bit about Flem.

Um, yeah.

Look, I mean, he was, he was my captain through from I think when Leigh JMont, uh, lost the job, '97.

Flem took over.

Still relatively young at, at that stage.

But I mean, you guys would've played, uh, that series, uh, in New Zealand.

And then again, uh, I think, Nass, you played the, the series in England, uh, post that.

He- he's a terrific thinker of the game.

I, I think he was New Zealand's best captain, um, probably since Geoff Howarth.

There was that argument that Howarth was a, a terrific captain who played a lot of cricket at Surrey, didn't he? Uh, Geoff Howarth.

But Steven Fleming's ability to read a game, uh, to understand his players, I think is, is, was one of the, the biggest things that I took from him.

Um, his, his way of approaching, um, getting players out, uh, w- was quite unique.

He was sort of y- one of the first guys I remember to, to use his strength.

Um, you know, the way we took on the Aussies, uh, under his captaincy, the Damien Martyn-type players that loved to cut.

He'd, he'd allow them to cut, but put a couple fielders there.

There was a, a lot to like about the way his manner was in and around the team.

And just from a leadership point of view, he, he was a exceptional captain and a great thinker of the game, and I think he's transformed that through to his coaching career.

Um, he, he, he's developed a lot of seriously talented players in that Indian setup coming through the, the Chennai Super Kings ranks.

And, uh, I think, you know, people have sort of said, I mean, you guys will have an opinion on it I suppose, he hasn't done red-ball coaching, but he's been exceptionally, um, successful coach, uh, over a long period of time.

And I, I think it's a good appointment.

He's close with Brendon.
