S2 EP 16: A Conversation with Kat Kinsman of Food & Wine

Thank you.

It's interesting you talk about when Anthony Bourdain committed suicide.

Ben's Friends was two years old at that point, and we were in four cities.

After that event, the phone rang off the hook.

Emails came in.

The media started calling, what's this Ben's Friends? What do you think? And I would tell you that it was that event.

We know often good comes from really bad moments.

That was when Ben's friends went on hyperdrive.

Yes.

What do you think was about him? Because you guys were friends.

Yeah, yeah.

And I will say also the Facebook group for Chefs With Issues just blew up overnight.

People were ready to it.

So I love him, and I miss him, and I still am upset with myself for... not having answered the last DM he sent me, because I was going to send back, like I was a little bit miffed with him, with him, and I was going to say something snarky back.

I had no problem saying snarky stuff back to this, because we met having a fight, actually.

Yeah, he wrote something I didn't like, I wrote something back that he didn't like, and mutual friends said, you all are on the same side and you don't even know it.

So when we finally met, it was really, really beautiful.

And we developed a friendship.

And I was as brokenhearted and shocked as anyone else.

I think the thing about him is he's the line cook made good.

Right.

And he's the person who...

He was never a great chef, and I think he would have told you that too.

Oh, he did

say that often.
