Cheryl IsinskiGuestBerdineHostWhat does local mean to you all personally? And how do you define what local is?

So I think of the whole country, right? And I think of all the extraordinary things that we have, that we can connect with.

You know, our local flora and fauna is an extraordinary resource of creativity for our designer makers, but also culturally, heritage and the fact that South Africans come from so many diverse backgrounds and how we can look to our uniqueness in culture and and express that.

And when we are inspired and moved by beautiful things that intrigue us and spark curiosity, we have a conversation starter that is so magnificent.

And I think that's the thing that deeply inspires me is How we pitch up and local in that context is extraordinarily motivating.

And I think it's something that is an absolute gift for us in South Africa, how diverse it all is.
I mean, especially when we're looking at me looking at you, Justin, you spent a while outside of the country and coming in with fresh eyes.
How do you see local change?

I mean, I think very specific to South Africa is the locality of geographically where we are, who we are, this kind of crazy country that we've formed over the last 30 years.

And if I think of what I was buying for my shop in London 25 years ago, which was very sort of Eurocentric.

South Africa was drawing from sort of England and France and the south of France.

And then suddenly this kind of click happened and our brains sort of shifted on the dial.

And South Africa began to produce South African things for South Africans and for the South African way of life.

And, you know, even on so many levels, you get things like those donkey long tongs that people have for their brides.

And the international people come and they look at them and they go, that's just completely crazy.
