That website again, retirementlifestyleadvocates.com. Well, the yield on the 30-year U.S. Treasury bond hit 5.55% last week before closing the week with a yield of 5.49%.

Can we say 5.5%? Interestingly, when you take a look at where the yield was on the 30-year U.S.

So we have seen about a five and a half fold increase in the last five years.

And when you look at what's happened actually to the prices of 30-year U.S. Treasuries, you really need only look as far as an exchange-traded fund that tracks the performance of long-term U.S. Treasuries.

And if you go back to March of 2020, when the stock market bottomed, that's really when bond prices peaked.

Not surprisingly, since in a market correction, at least in past market corrections, speaking of stock market corrections, investors have sought the safety of Treasury bonds.

But since March of 2020, US Treasuries, long-term US Treasuries have lost 50% of their value.

Can you believe it? Long-term US Treasuries down 50% in just the last five years.

It also tells you that Investors are not as comfortable loaning the U.S. government money for long periods of time at low interest rates.

They are demanding higher interest rates to compensate them for what they perceive to be increased risk.

I don't see either of these trends, inflation or rising interest rates changing in the near future.

I believe that if we see a pullback here in yields that it would be a great shorting opportunity on bonds.

Now, when we start looking at other segments of the economy, one of the segments that we've looked at here previously on RLA Radio is commercial real estate.

Chicago's Ion Center is just one example of what's happening presently in the commercial real estate market.

Shortly after the purchase in 2015, the building was refinanced with a loan of $536 million.

Presently, the building has been appraised for just $195 million after the recent loss of major tenants.
