When a parent cheats, it doesn’t just wound the marriage. It can wound the children too. For many young people from broken families, infidelity creates a terrifying fear: What if I get cheated on…
Doug HindererGuestJoey PontarelliHostBut starting out, I, I'm just curious, why do people cheat?

You know what? There are a lot of reasons why people cheat, and the interesting statistic is about half of the men who cheat and about a quarter of the women who cheat say they were actually in happy marriages, that it wasn't that I was unhappy with you and so I went looking for someone else who would, you know, treat me better.

A lot of times it's, you know, it's I just get sucked into this vortex of somebody else who is attractive and who is willing and is friendly, and it's a slippery slope.

And a lot of these affairs start off in a work setting in what we call an emotional affair.

S- maybe we travel together, and we get to know each other at a pretty close level.

We start opening up ourselves a little bit more to other people, and then at some point we start developing an emotional attachment, which then can go over the edge into a physical attachment.
Hmm.

The, the real danger place right now for affairs is where people work, the work setting, 'cause we've got a lot of men and women working together in close proximity.
Yeah, no, that's fascinating about the fact that they're in happy marriages.
What, what does that tell you? I'm just wondering, aside from this, uh, maybe, like, accidental slip into something unfaithful.
'Cause y- you, you would think the typical story would be, "I'm really unhappy in my marriage.
I'm not having, you know, the love, the intimacy, the sex that I want, and therefore I'm gonna step out and seek it elsewhere," but that's not always the case.

And in fact, I think, uh, you know, I'm a strong believer that Satan is very active in the lives of people, and he hates marriages because marriage reminds him of Jesus and His death on the cross for us.

In, in Scripture, Jesus is referred to as the bridegroom, and we, His church, are the bride.

And so when he sees a husband and wife, he thinks of Christ who destroyed him on the cross and us as the bride.

And it also, once there's children, it reminds him of the Trinity, God, the Son.
