[classical music][classical music] [clapping] That was a performance by the string quartet, The Rhythm Method, of one of the winners of this year's competition by Mary Brooke Hartman.

The piece was originally premiered at the Lake George Festival, and it's one of the winners this year for the Call for Scores at the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival.

Mary says, "Feathered Canyons is a nostalgic reflection on the time of childhood.

And in contrast, the pizzicato section introduces a jagged texture, rhythmic groove, and a repetitive musical line.

As the earlier material gradually returns, the music breaks free from the rhythmic constraints of the middle section, lifting us back into the original theme with a new sense of clarity." The title itself, Feathered Canyons, was inspired by a favorite tune of Mary's in childhood called Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell.

Again, the other one is by Ethan Jankowski, and we'll be hearing that in a little bit, but more from Elizabeth Chang about the festival itself.
