It's from the environments we grow up in, but it's also cultural, just in terms of how productive our society is, you know? It's like when, I always like to look at it, like, prehistorically.

So like, we have a tricky brain which attunes to threat, which is always kind of looking out for the next threat.

So back in however many years ago, it was lion, it was the lions that are going to, you know, or, or something that's, you know, that we need to kind of save ourselves from.

But nowadays, it's things like deadlines, you know, social comparison, AI, you know, just feeling, your job, like, parenting.

Because I guess it, you know, going back to COVID, I s- I think we really realized how uncertain life really was.

We kind of had this idea that, oh, yeah, like, we know we have control over our lives and the world, but actually we don't.

And I think, and what happens is the tricky brain, which attunes to this, this threat, sees the uncertainty as being, like, you know, something to be really afraid of.

So whenever something seems uncertain in our lives, what we do is we feel threatened, and in that moment of threat, we go to being more driven and doing more in order to reduce that anxiety a little bit.

So, I mean, I explained to you the last time that we have three emotional circles.

One is threat, which is all about, like, our fight or flight system, and keeping us safe, and that really needs to be there in order for us to...

And then we have a drive system, which is all about goals, you know, getting up every morning, achieving, doing your job, all that kind of stuff.

And then the soothing system, the safe system, is the one that gets forgotten about.

It's the one, is the reason why clients come to me, is because their soothing system, which is all about connection with yourself, connection with other people, feeling safe, feeling soothed, rest, all of those things belong to our soothing system.

And what generally happens is there's this kind of toxic drive loop which happens, which is, you know, when we feel under threat, when the tricky brain, 'cause the, the, the brain is there to survive, not necessarily to feel happy or be happy.
