This week in The Press Box... \- Girls Tennis Section Tournament. Is Lake City a powerhouse? \- We ode our area soccer teams \- A prediction on Section 1AA volleyball seeding \- The first Player…
They have separate section tournaments, one for teams followed by individuals, and they're both about a week apart.
Section 1A tennis, to be specific, individuals, they've played their first two rounds, and we'll get to that later, but let's talk about the team tournament.
Cannon Falls was able to hand the Tigers its only loss, and it came in the final match of the regular season.
Big for the Bombers because it gives them confidence that they can beat what seemed like an unbeatable team in Lake City.
Head coach Nick Dudley, he told me on Monday at the Rochester Athletic Club following the section championship match, he did not believe the team played its best, and nor did they approach the match the same as they had all season when they were just cruising through, winning 5-2, 6-1, 7-0 several times.
Tigers, they got the bye as the number one seed, and then they were more than ready.
Beat Waseca 5-2 in the semifinals, and then they advanced to the section final, which was a rematch against Cannon Falls.
It's their first three or top three singles players, number one, two, and three, between Therese Bauer, Gemma Bauer, Riley Theuren.
[laughs] I mean, if I was a three singles individual and I had to go up against Riley Theuren, I think that would be pretty unfair [laughs] for, for me.
Uh, she or Gemma Bauer, tho- any of those three really could be a number one on Lake City, and if they weren't all on the same team, I'm sure you would see any one of the three being a number one on somebody else's team.
So certainly feels like, at least internally, that, that, uh, Lake City is very much loaded.
