00:00:00 Should I switch to an EV? October 2026 news 00:03:45 Is a hybrid cheaper to run than an EV? 00:10:50 Which energy supplier is best for EV drivers? 00:15:55 Hybrid vs plug-in hybrid vs EV…
So I just wanna run through some of these 'cause they were great.
It, it was really fun.
Here's the direct answer, only if you can't charge at home.
At 10,000 miles a year, a 55 mile per gallon hybrid costs about 1,450 pounds in petrol.
Charged at home, an electric car costs about 230.
On public chargers, it's 1,600 to 2,400.
That's more than the hybrid.
And that's based on our averages that we put through.
So last week we did the theory together.
Two drivers, same car, one pays two pence a mile, one pays 23.
So that's two pence a mile versus 23 pence a mile.
This week I wanted to hear from real people, real cars, real n- real miles.
So we did some case examples, and we went live on TikTok, and then the people came.
Uh, you told me three things, how many miles do you do, what do you drive now, and whether you can charge at home.
Then a card on the screen gave you a verdict, switch now, switch with a plan, or not yet.
Behind the card is one simple sum, your fuel against your charging.
Petrol and diesel at today's RAC pump prices.
And public chargers at Zap-Map September averages, 54 pence for AC and 79 for rapid charging.
Those were the rates we were using for comparison.
That rapid price is up two pence since last week's show, and an average electric car doing just over three miles per kilowatt hour.
67 comments came in through the show, 79% from people who don't follow the channel at the moment.
So people are still making up their minds.
That's exactly who we're trying to talk to, people who are wondering or considering whether to switch.
