141. Nostalgic in the Least (BCO 63)

Well, Chapter 63, Christian Life in the Home, Section 1.

In addition to public worship, it is the duty of each person in secret and of every family in private to worship God.

Now, here's the question.

Is this just talking about a generic, your whole life is worship and so you should just live your whole life in worship? Or is this talking about particular things that you ought to do in secret and in private with your family? Go.

No, this is not just everything is worship.

If everything is worship, nothing is worship.

Nothing is worship.

That's right.

This is, you might think of three different areas in which you may have worship occur.

Corporate, which we all know, and coming together as church, many will think of, well, then I also have my private devotional, you know, I have my devotional book or my reading with my Instagram, coffee, and Bible combination in the morning.

Yeah, but...

There's a third category

that is family, those in your home that has been a subject for reflection.

It does go all the way back to Westminster.

They just didn't put it in their directory for public worship, but they did talk about the need for this and even discipline threatened for those who rejected it completely.

Those three areas, corporate, family, and private, all is having something of a time that's set aside that looks different than you just taking a walk and I'm worshiping among nature or whatever.

Collecting seashells by the seashore.

Yeah.

For baptism.

All right.

Well, that first sentence is straightforward and simple.

It's the duty of us to do these things.

And then section two deals with this secret worship, and then the rest of the chapter will deal with things in the family.
